The early Greeks be lived in gods and goddesses, and so, for instance, if they wanted to have a good harvest, they would have sacrificed to Demeter, goddess of Harvest, and they also would have sacrificed to Gaea, goddess of Earth (or more matter of fact, Gaea WAS earth).
