Doctor Thomas Barnardo was famous for improving the lives of poor and sick children in the Victorian period. He was helped by the Earl of Shaftbury by funding for homes.Mr.Barnardo although he went to London to train he never qualified to be a doctor he arrived in London at the time when the disease 'Cholera' was very common and left thousands of family's jobless and homeless.Barnardo was first inspried when he was closing one of his small schools when he noticed a boy in ragged clothes outside next to a fire.He said "Young boy why aren't you going home."The small boy answered that he had no home.Barnardo was shocked that a boy as young as he was living on the streets with no pityful help. Barnardo then said "What is your name child" He answered,"Jim,sir. Just Jim Jarvis,sir" Jim took Doctor Barnardo to a rooftop and showed him 11 boys sleeping in the cold.He then decided he would dedicate his life to homeless family's and children.

Dr.Barnado was a philanthropist and created homes for orphaned children, there were a great many then. His homes are still in existence today

Dr Barnardo changed the world by first, he worked and worked to earn money to build a charity. Next he created charity shops where the public would come in and sell/buy clothes and toys. He also created money pots and scattered them allover the world. Thirdly, he collected all the money he made and gave them to the poor children with no homes.
