Hrunting is not the name of the sword, because Hrunting bounced off of the sea-hag. Therefore, it is not the answer. The sword that killed her has no name. They had just called it, "The sword made by a giant."
He needs to use a weapon this time.
his sword
While Grendel's mother is hard for Beowulf to defeat, he IS able to use a sword, where as he has to battle Grendel bare handed.
Beowulf kills Grendel's mother by using her own weapon, a giant's sword, against her. This is ironic because he defeats her with the very weapon she was planning to use against him. Additionally, he avenges Grendel's death by killing his mother in the same manner that Grendel killed Hrothgar's men.
Oh, dude, Beowulf skips the weapons against Grendel because he's all about that mano a monster action. Like, he wanted to show off his bare hands and flex those muscles, you know? Plus, weapons are so last season in epic battles, right?
Grendel's mother took his claw as a symbol of her vengeance and to use it as a weapon against Beowulf and the humans who killed her son. It was a way for her to continue the cycle of violence and seek retribution.
Beowulf tries using Hrunting, the sword the Danes had given him, to attack Grendel's mother because the mother wanted to avenge her son's death and was followed into her home in the lake by Beowulf. Beowulf's weapon was Hrunting and so he tried attacking the mom because of her previous actions (avenging the death of her son Grendel- the monster Beowulf killed- by killing a close friend of the king Hrothgar who's men were killed by Grendel, and retrieving Grendel's arm that hung from the rafters of Herot after the battle when Beowulf hung it there from tearing it off Grendel).
While Grendel's mother is hard for Beowulf to defeat, he IS able to use a sword, where as he has to battle Grendel bare handed.
Grendel's mom tried to kill Beowulf for her son's vengeance. This was a tougher battle for Beowulf because his sword wasn't able to hurt her mother so he use his fist and gradually found a mystic sword and cut her head off.
save Hrothgar and the Danes from the monster
