Yes daffodils do like full sun, but they can tolerate partial shade. Just don't put them in a totally shaded area with water saturated soil. They really don't like that.

The reason they require full sun is because they are flowering plants with a bulb. The light energy from the sun is necessary to make the food that sustains the plant. If there are seeds to mature or bulbets to grow, the plant needs the food to do so. It is important to leave the leaves on the plant until they turn yellow. As long as they are green, they are making food and storing it in the bulb for next year's flowers.
