Family members relinquished all money and personal possessions including their children. They were never allowed to question Manson. Manson organized all group activities including orgies. Basically, nobody did anything unless ordered to by Manson. These young people allowed Manson to completely dominate every aspect of their lives. In hindsight, not such a good idea.

Charles Manson had a set of rules that he enforced within his "Family" cult. Some of these rules included total obedience to Manson, surrendering personal possessions, no talking about the Family's activities to outsiders, and maintaining loyalty to the group. These rules were designed to maintain control over his followers and manipulate them to carry out his violent and criminal acts.
