By painting mythological subjects, instead of only religious ones. He did not do this on his own accord, though. Those paintings were commissioned by the Medici family and others. By blending the two different philosophies, he created a new concept(Neoplatonism), which became the central focus of many paintings. More information on Neoplatonism can be found at: link below.

In his style, Botticelli was influenced by other leaders in the Early Renaissance. The beginning of the use of perspective began to give greater depth to paintings.

In the subject matter of his paintings, he was influenced by patrons and religious leaders. Patrons decided the subjects of paintings because they were the ones paying for them(they tended to choose Mythological subjects . Radical religious leader, Savanarola, burned what he viewed as 'worldly desires'. There is no point in creating things that are sure to be burned, so Botticelli painted things that Savanarola would approve of. So, Botticelli created religious works.

More information on Savanarola's influence of Botticelli can be found at "Savanarola's Radical Religion"(I'll include the URL on the related links).

He was the first Florentine painter to paint other subjects than religious ones or portraits: Mythological or allegorical ones. It should be stressed that this was not his personal choice, but that of the persons who commissioned paintings from him.
Botticelli was a master Renaissance artist. Two of his most famous paintings are "The Birth of Venus" and "Primavera".
