The philosiphy of Confucianism was centered around a class of "educated nobility" Confusius believed that education was central to having a good government. In essence, if the higher classes were well educated they would be set up to be wise rulers.

The core values of Confucianism are 1. be a 'decent' member of society and behave humanely towards others; 2. Observe the etiquette of daily life and be 'cultured'; 3. be loyal to your superiors and expect loyalty from them in return; 4. respect your parents; 5. act like a 'gentleman' (which often is seen as a summary of the first 4 points) 6. In order to be master of others, be master of yourself and 7. Seek knowledge and study to become a better person.

To reach the highest possible potential as a human being. It has no deities and is therefore more of a "school of thought" rather than what is called a religion. This fact confuses many people. Insistence on political, social and moral activism also bothers people.

Li represents the principles of gain, benefit and order. Li also represents the principle of social order and ritual.
