At that time in Maryland's history most people were indentured slaves to rich people who had paid for their passage to America, and they worked on cash crops that would make as you can tell by the name a lot of money and if I am correct, at that time they grew tobacco.

In Colonial America (as everywhere in the world in the late 1700s) the primary occupation was "farmer". Other common occupations would have been weavers, carpenters, mule-tenders, horse groomers, coopers (barrel-makers), cobblers (shoe-makers), shopkeepers, smiths, and bakers. There were teachers, lawyers, preachers, doctors, midwives, and innkeepers.

But most people were farmers.
