many things started being used as weapons in WWI (much more than three). But some that really affected this new type of trench warfare were barbed wire, flamethrower, mounted machine guns, tanks, submarines, hand grenades, gases and airplanes.

Note that tanks did not effect the outcome of the war much as the allies and central powers did not know how to properly use them to their advantages. Airplanes could only be used to scout enemy troop movement and therefore surprise attacks were of no use. Submarines were used to restrict supplies of Allied troops (blockade) from the home front. Barbed wire was a major factor of trench warfare. It slowed down troop advances considerably and made it easier for soldiers to be mowed down by machine guns.
