In the mid 1800's the first Oneida movement into Wisconsin from New York a group of 448 people that were tribal members had embraced Christianity. A year later a second christian party composed of over 200 Oneidas were primarliy Methodist also arrived from New York. In 1841 another migration of Oneidas with about 44 members arrived in notheastern Wisconsin was the only group that had not embraced Christianity, they were called the "pagan party".
