The embankments are called levees. When the levees around New Orleans failed during and after Hurricane Katrina it led to catastrophic flooding. Note that money had been allocated for work on the levees prior to that but it was decided to use it to improve the roads on top of the levees which, technically, was an "improvement" but one wonders how it would have all played out if it had instead been used to improve the strength of those those levees prior to Katrina.

iT DEPOSITS A THIN LAYER OF NEW SOIL OVER THE OLD SOIL WITH FRESH MINERALS, ETC. ========== The conditions for flooding often collect a lot of debris along the way and stir up the materials that have sunk to the bottom of the river (which are usually nutrient and organic rich). All this material gets carried along and deposits along the edges of the flooded area, replenishing nutrients and organic components of the soil.

Augustus brought the Pax Romana and all its benefits. Caligula did not bring any asset to the empire during his reign, but brought a sinister precedent by his death. He was the first emperor to be assassinated by the Praetorian Guard, thus giving the Guard a dangerous realization of its power. Nero was extremely popular with the common people. He, not only made technological advances but was the first emperor to use the dome in a building.
