Two separate things. The cold war was a state of mistrust and intense spying between the US and the USSR, and to a lesser extent, China. no it is not, The cold war was between Russia and America, The civil war is Northern America vs Southern America
America and Russia are friendlier than they were during the Cold War. They work together on a lot of issues, such as counter-terrorism. They're basically frenemies. Relations aren't excellent, but they aren't terrible.

The Cold War. The Cold War did not necessarily involve any direct attacks, however. It was mainly between America and Russia in the 60's and 70's. Russia wanted to spread communism, but America didn't. Eventually Russia tried to spread it in Vietnam. The North Vietnamese approved, the South didn't. China was already communist, so they pitched in to help North Vietnam and Russia.
