Many new technologies were introduced in World War I. A few of the most significant were poisonous gases of various kinds utilized by both sides in the conflict; militarily effective aircraft, both fixed-wing and dirigible types; helmet-design; and armored fighting vehicles or, as the British dubbed them for secrecy purposes, "tanks".
Mechanized warfare, Tanks, also Airplanes.
Flamethrowers, trench mortars, poison gas, barbed wire, and submarines were first used effectively (though not necessarily invented during the conflict).
Machine guns, tanks, airplanes, and poison gas.
Of course (while not entirely new) the proliferation of the machine gun forced the type of warfare that ensued.

All of the others were invented long beforehand, and were used in other conflicts well before WW1.A list of technologies first effectively employed in WW1; that is, while the underlying technology was, in most cases, developed before the war, WW1 is the first time a practical version of the technology was widely used.tanksairplanesindirect-fire artillery with correction by a forward observersubmarinestelephone and wireless communicationsSee the Related Question link for more.

The machine gun caused trench warfare to be a necessity as 90%+ of the casualties of WW1 were from this weapon. The use of Napoleonic tactics against new technologies was disastrous.
