The Satan Deluder Act was made in to law in 1647 and required that children (boys in community schools and girls in "dame"/homeschools) be taught to read [and write] so that they may read from and understand the scriptures (The Bible)and live wholesome, productive lives. It was thought that the Bible was the major source of higher thought and intellectualism until the era of post-modernism in the mid 1700's.

Why was Ole' Deluder Satan Act passed in Massachusetts?

== This act, known today as the Ole' Deluder Satan Act, established the first town school system in America, a system that recognized the importance of the Bible in a civilized society. Ref. America Land I Love, 1994, A Beka Books, page 35 == The Ole' Deluder Act was passed in Massachusetts in the mid 17th century because the Puritans were deeply religious and believed in the very real presence of evil/Satan. They believed if they read and studied the Scriptures enough they could resist evil and Satan's temptations. This Act was the first Education Act in America to make sure all townships with 50 or more households provided a school to teach children to read and write. Learning to read was a necessity in order to thwart the Ole' Deluder (Satan).

What does the old deluder Satan act of 1647 show about the relationship between education and religion?

Early settlers had experienced many civil atrocities that occurred in Europe in the name of Christianity, such as the inquisition and the tortures during the crusades and many of the settlers had experienced persecution for practicing their own faith in Europe, the settlers wanted to prevent these things from happening here in the states and they were convinced that the atrocities in Europe were a result of wide spread illiteracy in general and a lack of biblical knowledge in particular. Since they could not read, it allowed the government to widely teach the masses that the bible required the church and state leaders of Europe (there was a national church) to be heavy handed. Because they were illiterate and could not read they scriptures themselves to learn otherwise they allowed and even participated in these acts. Because of the abuse of power that was imposed on a biblically illiterate people the settlers were convinced that if the common people could read and learn the word of God for themselves they would resist the evil government. Hence the law "The Old Deluder Satan Act of 1647". So to answer your question, the establishment of Public schools was for the direct purpose of teaching the masses how to read the bible in particular. Please see one of the early text books that were required for students called The New England Primer. This is still sold through amazon for about $6 or so and is biblically focused. Oh, how far we have come as a nation where everyone is trying to secularize the history of our government, take prayer and God out of schools. We must know our history and not listen to what the media has to say about it.

Is your teacher the antichrist?

The Antichrist is Satan, and as Satan cannot appear in human form he cannot teach. He can but influence someone to teach his Antichirst doctrine. I believe that if a person is so evil, Satan may possess his body but you will not see Satan as he really is.

Satan was a created angel and as such probably has no children through a bond with a female. However the Bible calls all who does not follow Jesus Christ, but follows Satan a "son" of Satan.
