In the second battle, Lee used Jackson's corps as an anvil, taking cover in a railroad cut while Pope sent waves of Federal troops at them, each wave being repulsed. Just as Jackson's men were down to their last ammo, and were throwing rocks at their attackers, Lee had Longstreet attack the left Union flank. Longstreet struck like a thunderbolt, and the yankees were routed again.
