The zoning laws help to categorize certain types of property and regulate how these types of property can be used by individuals, corporations, public institutions. Much criticism has been brought to these laws because they try to regulate private property, but without them the legal system would be a mess, lawsuits upon lawsuits, the public institutions would abuse city planning and so on.
