Wolf Spiders are venomous and their venom is poisonous. Bites that penetrate the skin can cause pain, swelling and itchiness. Most people only experience the symptoms for a few minutes while others get a wound that takes a few days to heal. If the victim is either a child or an elderly person, medical treatment should be sought. The bite may in itself be infectious and potentially dangerous if proper actions are not taken. The duration of acute pain from wolf spider bites were normally 10 minutes, and the majority of bite effects were due to mechanical trauma but wolf spider bites should be avoided.

If you get a bite do not put a bandage on the wound but wash it with soap and warm water. To reduce the swelling you can put an ice pack over the bite area. If pain persists more than 60 minutes seek medical attention.

There is not normally a threat of a severe reaction, but this can occur with a large specimen or repeated bites. If in doubt about the toxic reaction to any spider bite, consult a medical professional immediately. (Especially if there is marked swelling of the bite site - the bite could be from another species.)

Most wolf spiders have a very very very low venom count. Even in a large wolf spider 1.5 inches of more, the bite is usual harmless. It is among the most common spider species to roam a house. Most bites will only cause a small bump.

How dangerous is a wolf spider?

Wolf spiders are not as dangerous as you think. Even though a wolf spider's bite is poisonous, the venom is not lethal. Wolf spiders aren't know to be aggressive, but they will bite if thy feel threatened or in danger. However, if you are bitten by a wolf spider, you should still see a doctor immediately. You should also, instead of a bandage, use an ice pack on the bitten area until the swelling goes down. If necessary, try to avoid any movement at all were the bitten area is. And another important thing is to also call an exterminator to make sure you don't see any of those little guys again!
