Non- renewable resources are recyclable and non- recyclable. These resources take millions of years in their formation. Some of the resources like metals are recyclable and some like fossil fuels cannot be recycled and get exhausted with their use. Development in the present should not compromise with the needs of the future generations.

This would lead to mass scale socioeconomic and environmental problems like

  • depletion of land resource would lead to scarcity of cultivable lands
  • global warming,
  • ozone layer depletion,
  • Environmental pollution ,
  • land degradation,

Whenever something that provides that resource is no longer able to or ceases to exist.

* Sunlight is considered renewable but the sun will run out eventually. * Geothermal energy (heat from deep under the ground) is renewable, but the world will eventually cool down.

* Water is considered a renewable resource, because it evaporates and comes down again as rain, but it could become non-renewable in a particular area, when a country is overwhelmed with drought.

The very name non renewable gives the answer. If it is completely used up, that means it will be gone forever.

Example:

Oil is a non-renewable resource. We are running out of oil. If we use up every drop of oil, there will be none left in the world. In turn that means everything that depends upon oil will no longer work. We will have to rely on solar power, wind power, wave power, horse power.

Renewable sources ( e.g sun and wind power ) will not run out if it is not conserved or protected. But non-renewable resources on the other hand will run out if not conserved as these resources aren't able to renew or produce itself. Hope that helped.

Renewable resources will never be depleted, but nonrenewable resources can and when they do we would probably see us back in the 1700 and 1800's technology wise and we would have to invent new ways to get power
