If a cell is punctured with an ultra-fine needle it will NOT leak. instead, the proteins and phospholipids will move in to fill the gap as the needle is removed.

What is FALSE regarding the membrane potential?

Both potassium and sodium ions can "leak" through the cell membrane due to diffusion.

Would both plant and animal cells have the same effect if the cell membrane burst?

yes it would because........ nothing is different about the function and structure of the cell membrane so in both cells the conditions of the cell membrane exploding will still be the same for both cell types (it will leak by therefore killing it)

What happens when the cell membrane or plasma membrane ruptures or breaks down?

On providing a hypotonic environment outside the cell, the plasma membrane bursts. When the cell membrane ruptures, the cellular contents are released to the environment as the cell membrane is the 'wall' that separates the cellular contents from the outer environment. In biological terminology, this is called cellular lysis.

What form of cellular transportation helps human cells maintain their sodium and potassium concentration?

The sodium/potassium pump, the sodium leak channel and the potassium leak channel.

What will happen if the plasma membrane ruptures?

The cell will die. The cell membrane/plasma membrane is a semipermeable lipid bilayer common to all living cells. It contains a variety of biological molecules, primarily proteins and lipids, which are involved in many cellular processes, and also serves as the attachment point for both the intracellular cytoskeleton and, if present, the cell wall. If it ruptures all cell organelles will leak out due to the difference of osmotic pressure and will result in the eath of the cell.

Do punctured veins leak fluid?

Yes, punctured veins leak blood.

Will a tubeless tire get punctured?

A tubeless tire can get punctured but air will leak slowly.

Why dont proteins leak out of the cell?

The plasma membrane prevents that from happening.

Is a fire extinguisher a hand grenade?

No. If it is punctured, it will leak, not explode.

What would happen to a human cell if they had no membrane?

Its contents would leak all over and breakdown and therefore it would not be a cell.

What does a cell membrane do for other cell?

the cell membrane prevents the nucleus cytoplasm and ...etc not to leak out of the cell .so it is a wall that keeps every thing inside the cell.EX:lets say its like a water balloon that keeps the water inside the balloon.

Do bacterial cells have a cell membrane?

Yes, the standard bi-lipid layer, and/plus an exterior, strong, Cell wall.Yes, and the cell membranes are usually covered by cell wall as well.

What is a sodium ion leak channel?

It's where Sodium Ions can flow freely between the cell membrane to maintain equilibrium.
