The black wire is the hot wire through which the electrical current flows to the appliance. The left over voltage which is usually zero flows back to the main circuit panel through the white neutral wire where it flows to ground.

Which wire carries the voltage?

Electrical wire.

What can induce an electrical current in a wire?

A magnetic field can induce an electrical current in a wire.

How does a fuse wire save an appliance from high electric current?

A fuse link will melt and interrupt the flow of current to the appliance before it can get high enough to damage the appliance or wiring.

What does the live wire do in an electrical circuit?

The live wire in the supply cable carries current from the power station to the electrical device that you want to use. The current returns to the power station through the neutral wire in the supply cable. For safety reasons, on some electrical equipment there is also a ground wire - also known as an earth wire. It is connected to any metal parts on the outside of the unit, such as a metal case, and to any internal metal chassis, motor framework, etc. The ground wire is necessary to conduct away the current which could otherwise kill someone if a fault or an accident happens which damages the insulation of the live wire so that it touches any of those metal parts and gives them a high voltage. That would be very dangerous to the human users of the equipment.

How does the fuse wire save your electrical appliances?

The fuse wire is rated for a specific amount of amperage. If the amperage exceeds that rating, the fuse wire will quickly melt. The current flow in the circuit is interrupted, thereby protecting the appliance from an overload condition.

What is a function of earth wire?

The earth wire connects the metal frame of the electrical appliances to the ground. The convention is to have green colour for earth wires. The purpose of earthing is that in case of an insulation failure in some appliance, this wire connected to the metal body will provide a path for the current to flow on the ground. In absence of earth wire, this fault current would have flown through the body of the operator, causing electrical shock.

A wire with some resistance and a voltage applied to it The amount of current I passing this wire is V/R

How do you measure electrical current flow in a copper wire?

Electrical current flow in a copper wire is measured with an ammeter. It is either clamped onto the wire or attached at one end to monitor the amount of current moving through the wire.

Do you have to hook up a ground wire to a tamper proof outlet?

Yes, you can still have an electrical fault current on an appliance or the wiring which needs to have a ground return path for personal and equipment safety.
