A band facer is a taping machine that carries a roll of plastic for edging composite wood surfaces. Cheap furniture is often made of composite woods like K3, medite, chipboard and other particle boards. The bandfacer uses hot glue to attach the plastic band to the exposed edge of such panels.
The IPPC standard only impacts packaging using solid wood (both coniferous and non-coniferous). Engineered wood products such as corrugated, plywood, OSB, etc. are exempt. If there is any solid wood used in the packaging, the unit must be marked accordingly.
