The ECM monitors components of the motor. If their is a problem with one of those component, it lites up and notifies you of the issue. If the issue is repaired the lite will disappear. Do you mean a 3.5L? I don't believe the Intrigues came with a 2.5L. Also came with the 3.8L. The light will stay on for at least 5 cycles in the case of a misfire throwing a code. That has happened to me on a few occasions. You can also go to Autozone and they will read and clear the codes for free. The light may never go off until you clear it if it is from another cause.
