External coldness (air or water) can, of course, cause a lowering of body temperature. In such cases, body temperatures below 92 F can become a problem.

However, it is possible for 93F to be the "normal" temperature for some people. What's more, when and how you measure can make a difference. Measuring under the tongue will result in a lower temperature than measuring rectally. Measuring in the arm pit, in the ear or on the skin surface will result in lower temperatures still. Normally, one's temperature is lowest in the wee early morning hours (assuming a typical sleep pattern) and highest in the late afternoon. Body temperature in most people also varies a couple of degrees depending upon the time of day and in a few people, it will vary even more and still be considered normal.

That being said, low body temperature can also be a sign that something is wrong. Is the 93F temperature something new? If so, it should be looked into.

Even if it is not a new phenomena, you should probably be checked for hypothyroidism. Both a T3 and T4 test should be given. If these come back within normal limits, it may well be that you are just a healthy person with a low body temperature. However, many people would argue that thyroid tests are not always accurate so if you have the other symptoms of hypothyroidism and and low body temp, you should try taking thyroid replacement to see if it helps.

Why do infections cause a rise in body temperature, making the body feel hot?

Infections cause a rise in body temperature because the body's immune system releases chemicals called pyrogens in response to the infection. These pyrogens signal the brain to increase the body's temperature, which helps to fight off the infection by making it harder for the bacteria or virus to survive. This rise in temperature makes the body feel hot.
