An interesting question.

Before we get to the act of opening the jar itself, we should probably examine how the closed jar would behave in the space environment to make sure we can actually conduct our experiment as planned!

The first and most glaring difference is that on Earth, the contents of the jar (assuming it hasn't been opened) are at a slightly lower pressure than the surrounding air, but in space the interior pressure of the jar is much higher than the surrounding vacuum. For the sake of this experiment we will assume that the glass of the jar is strong enough so it doesn't shatter and the lid is likewise strong and well secured so it doesn't just pop off before we open it ourselves. Now that we are in no danger of coating the airlock with a delicious mess, let's go outside and open the damn thing.

So now we start unscrewing the lid. If we're careful we can gently let the little bit of air trapped inside the jar escape, lest it pop off and contribute to the growing problem of spa...

...what are you doing? Quick, grab it! I'll try to catch... okay we lost it, it's gone now. Congratulations, you have just created a piece of space debris! Good job! Well, at least the lid is fairly large and made of metal, so it can be tracked with ground radar to make sure it doesn't pose a collision hazard.

Okay what's happening with the jam, now that it's free to enjoy the deadly vacuum of space? Well there's a fair bit of air trapped inside it that wants to get out, so it's probably going to start boiling and expanding out of the jar like a marshmallow. Bits of the jam might flake off, further exacerbating our careless debris pollution of this orbit, but let's assume the jam is sticky enough to stay in one piece. What happens next, it sort of depends. If the jam isn't exposed to the sun it's going to freeze into a bizarre vacuum sculpture after a little while, the thermal stress might fracture the jar as well. I'm not sure what's going to happen if it stays in direct sunlight. It might become vacuum-dried after a while as the water content sublimates. The strong UV radiation is probably going to cause some interesting, if unappetizing chemical reactions. It's probably not going to be recognizable as jam anymore if you leave it outside for longer.

One thing is clear, the result is definitely nothing you'd want to put on your sandwich!

What is going on with Space Jam 2?

Unfortunately Space Jam 2 has been postponed. Bugs Bunny has deceased. He died on the set while making a Slam Dunk... but it was more like a Slam Death. In order to pay respects to Mrs. Bunny and the kids, movie will either be canceled altogether, or the remaining parts will be filmed starring Eddie Murphy as a fill in.

What order are the planets and bodies moving away from the sun?

I know the order of the planets going from near the sun to farther away, it is... Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto. An easy way to remember this is... Many Vile Earthlings Munch Jam Sandwiches Under Newspaper Piles!!!! You relate each letter for the start of a word with a planes, for example, Piles=Pluto and Jam=Jupiter! Simple! I hope I helped you!

In 1895 what technology existed?

Needs a bit more definition, however as the topic is Space Exploration, Moon and Apollo Program specific. In 1895, avacuum was well known, a trip to the Moon a theory, by H G Wells. In his version a large cannon was used, which would have probably turned the astronauts into strawberry jam, since it required about 22g's (your earth weight being 1) to exceed Earth's gravity to orbit in one titanic shot (about 17,500 miles per hour) let alone go to the Moon (at 25,000 mph). In the mid 1950's there was a project called HARP (High Altitude Research Project) which fired projectiles from a very large (22 inch) rifled cannon buried in Barbados. Even electronics fried under the stress and the objects all failed to gain orbit. In 1895 there was basic high-altitude medical knowledge, usually from the victims of runaway balloons. Very early electronics existed as well as photography and very early celestial navigation. The bottom line is that if someone with a vast amount of money would have tried to go to the Moon in 1895, the chances for success were monstrously slim. Nil. Suicide. Even if they survived the initial shot, their blood would boil before they even cleared the clouds and their capsule, or what was left of it, stood a better chance of finally hitting the Sun, than ever hitting the Moon.

How many Jupiters would it take to fill up the sun?

According to www.nineplanets.org the radius of the Sun is 697,000 km, which means that the volume of the Sun (using 4/3*pi*r3) is about 1,418,364,847.22 billion cubic km.The radius of Jupiter is 71,492 km, which gives us a volume of 1,530,600.9 billion cubic km.This means that inside the Sun, you could probably jam in about 926 Jupiters!

What do you call the holes on the surface of the moon?

These are craters, caused by impacts. Because the moon does not have sufficient gravity to sustain an atmosphere, there is no protective barrier between the moon's surface and random objects in space. Craters will typically have a raised rim, a sloped crater wall leading into the depression and a crater floor that is the base of the depression. The surrounding area of a crater will have material "splashed" onto it from the impact. Larger craters will also have a central peak caused by the kinetic energy of an impacting object melting a portion of the lunar or impacting material.

What would happen to a jar of jam in space?

Jam contains a high proportion of water, so it would depend on the physical strength of the jar. I'm assuming that this is a glass jar? Most likely, the jar would crack or shatter as the pressure around it was decreased, allowing the water in the jam to boil off into the vacuum.
