What would happen if your digestive system did not work properly?
if digestive system did not work properly you wouldn't get all the nutrients you need and eventually you'd get weak &sick
What would happen if the nervous system was not functioning properly. How would this affect the muscular system?
The digestive system is what converts regular food that we eat into useful form of nutrients which can be used by the rest of the body. Without these nutrients, the other organs would eventually shut down and die. The body does have the capability to convert energy from fat cells for use in the rest of the body. I'm not sure if this is a function of the digestive system, though.
The digestive system actually functions fairly independently of the central nervous system in organisms such as humans. The necessary functions of the digestive system are performed automatically by the enteric nervous system. Central nervous system can only modulate the activity (increase or decrease) of the digestive system.
The respiratory system is dependant on the digestive system due to the fact that in order to produce energy the respiratory system needs glucose (C6H12O6) and the digestive system breaks down that glucose. Without the digestive system digesting glucose, the respiratory system would not be able to turn glucose to energy.
