in an ecosystem, if one animal becomes too plentiful, food sources can become scarce for that creature (and animals with similar diets), causing malnutrition, disease, and potentially death of the species within that area. Predators serve to mitigate the species' population, allowing both species to survive.
If there were no predators, the population of the prey would become staggering. For instance, if there were no cats in the barn, the mice would copulate endlessly, make babies, and there would be no higher animal to do population control. There would be an infestation of mice. Then, the population of the prey of mice would dwindle as there are many more predators being created than prey. The population of the prey of mice would flatline, forcing the mice to either starve or find a new food source. The new food source would go the same way as the last source of food the mice had gotten into.

Predators benefit from predation because they are allowed to EAT the prey! Doesn't everyone just enjoy snacking? The prey can also benefit from predation, though. Predators are more likely catch, kill, and eat the weak or unhealthy animals than the strong, healthy ones, which means that the stronger animals of the prey population get to reproduce and pass on their traits to their offspring.Offspring is another word for babies.

By keeping the population of herbivores down. If the herbivores, like sheep eat too much grass, there's not enough grass left for them to feed on, and most of them die. If a predator was included, it could help keeping the population down.

Right, and if for example the predators die, most of the time, they themselves are prey, so if they come to the point of extinction, the animals who eat them will also die,so on and so forth.
