From 1952, the Queen's Christmas message has been televised in some form. From 1952 (her first message) it was broadcast in addition to radio on TV with sound only. In 1957, the first full television broadcast of the message was made.
No Christmas Broadcast took place in 1969 because a repeat of the documentary Royal Family was already scheduled for the holiday period.
An example of a speech at a Christmas party is when people are recognized for their hard work all through the year.

The tradition began in 1932 with a radio broadcast by the King - George V. The first message broadcast by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was in 1952. They were broadcast (on TV) in sound only until 1957.
