The four principal members of ABBA first worked together in the late sixties but didn't really come together as a group until 1970. The first recording by the group that would become known as "Abba" was released in June, 1972. However, Abba's songwriters, guitarist Bjorn Ulvaeus and keyboardist Benny Andersson, first met in 1966 and began writing and performing together. They both met their future wives, vocalists Agnetha Faltskog and Frida Lyngstad in 1969, and the women started singing back-up on Bjorn and Benny performances. The four started performing together as a group in 1970.
