Could be a number of things. If it is a red light on the speedometer look next to it for an abbreviation or symbol. May be oil pressure, alternator/generator which is connecting to your cooling fan, or a few others.
The red ones in the rear of the car. Note: They are separate from and next to the red lights that are on constantly when you turn your head lights on.
Maybe the hood isn't shut tight?
