1. Right click
2. Properties
3. Compability
4. Choose "Run this program in compability mode for"
5. XP ServicePack 2 or 3.
Additional:
"Run this program as an administrator" Might help your cause.
You should use compatibility mode because, XP mode takes up a lot of system resources. Only use XP mode as a last resort.

it should. but if it doesn't use the troubleshoot compatibility tool by right clicking on the application file then clicking troubleshoot compatibility
If you have just installed Windows XP and now attempt to install your favorite game that worked fine under Windows 98 and Windows 9 but it won't work. When you attempt the installation you get an error, it is likely that your issue is one of compatibility.
You can try using compatibility properties (right click on the application-> "Compatibility" tab-> Choose "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"-> and choose operating system). You might have to try all OSes in the compatibility list. If none works for you can try using a virtual machine. There is one from Microsoft it's free for windows 7 and comes with free version of windows XP (this free version works only under virtual machine).
