Albert Einstein was born into a Jewish family in Germany in 1879 and saw the writing on the wall during the rise of fascism in the 1920's and 30's. He travelled to the US, arguably to further his studies and research and in 1932, he managed to stay there. He gained Swiss citizenship in 1901 and US citizenship in 1940.
... I'm quite sure you meant Albert Einstein... he became US citizen in 1940, was born in Germany 1879... He had to leave Germany as a Jew as Hitler was going to lead the country at that time. Albert Einstein studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), Switzerland... then prepared a short résumé of his discoveries to get access at the University of Berne (still Switzerland) - he then got the Nobel Prize for this very résumé... if I'm not wrong. But I'm quite sure he never really was Swiss citizen... he had residence permission and became some citizen of honor of Berne or something... Vic
