They found two gunshot wounds. One to the head and one below the heart. The temple shot had powder marks on it indicating close range. Some of the indians were known to shoot dead people after the fight. However, it indicates also suicide because he would have been tortured if captured. Also temple shot is classic suicide shot. Apparently had a smile on his face. He wasn't scalped like the other men indicating he wasn't worthy of the respect of the indians as they believed it an honor to scalp. Suicide is held very low by the Indians.
