Why did carlisle change Esme?

No; they married once he turned her into a vampire; early in their relationship (aprox. in 1921). They had met before; when she was 16 and he was a vampire (she never got over the experience of meeting him and he never did either because as soon as he recognized her years later; he turned her into a vampire so he won't lose her again.)

They instantly fell in love; you know once a vampire finds love; finds his soul mate for eternity: Carlisle and Esme found each other for the eternity.

Carlisle changed Esme into a vampire after finding her almost dying from a suicide attempt. He transformed her into a vampire to save her life and provide her with a second chance at living. Carlisle saw potential in Esme and believed she could find happiness and purpose as a member of his coven.

Because when she was still human, her baby died, so she tried to fall off a cliff to die. But Carlisle saved her in time and changed her into a vampire. It tells about it in one of the books. :)

Actually, Carlisle and Esme met before. Esme broke her leg at sixteen and Carlisle was the physician working that night. Esme was born on a farm and her father had to get back to it. Apparently , horses and corn are more important than his own daughter. Anyways, Carlisle felt bad for Esme and stayed with her that night because he knew what it was like to have a father that didnt love him.Carlisle changed Esme because he remembered her as the happy girl at sixteen and didnt want her to die. They fell in love quickly ,and although Esme was still a newborn they got married within the same year. :) Hope that helps.

They first met when Esme was 16 and Carlisle was already a vampire. He was working in a hospital in Esme's hometown and she was treated by Carlisle when she broke her leg climbing a tree.
