In the twelfth century, the Mongol Empire rose to power and expanded aggressively. Sakyapa, or the Stripe sect, was quite powerful among all the sects at that time. The Mongol Emperor negotiated with the abbot of Sakyapa and assisted him to become the ruler of Tibet. From then on, Tibet became an appendage of the Mongol Empire.
In 1254, Kublai Khan granted supreme authority over Tibet to the leader of Sakyapa. Sakya Pandit was appointed to become the imperial preceptor and a high official in his court. Tibet was thus incorporated as one of the 13 provinces of China.

The People's Republic of China took over Tibet the moment they took over the land that was once ruled by the Republic of China (Taiwan)
(PS. The Republic of China in turn inherited Tibet from imperial Qing China)
------------------------
The status of Tibet before the Qing dynasty is debatable.
The imperial Qing rulers were the first to formally incorporate Tibet as a province of China. But they were NOT the first to rule Tibet.
Tibet had been ruled by Beijing since the 13th century.
1959. Tibet was nt part of China dispite claims. No Tibetan wanted to be part of China. They suffer today and many are in exile. China government ethics, or lack of ethics, require land to be conquered because of their out of control population (despite attempts to curve it). Now the strain is piling on other nations.
What happened in America is still happening in Tibet. It's time the corporate alliance in support of Tibet begins it's economic collapse of the Chinese system. Which will start 2014 and continue for decades till Tibet is restored, and China is in it's place.
Tibet was invaded in 1950 by the Peoples Liberation Army. The Tibetan Army suffered 5,000 soldiers Kia. Mass protest/revolt broke out in 1959 against the Chinese occupation.

Tibet is not free because China took it over.
Tibet was once a country that was very traditional, and not very modernized. China invaded it and began to take it over. Just in the past year or so it has officially become a part of China. On maps of China it now shows Tibet within its borders, it is just a section of China now.
The country of Tibet has an autonomous government that reports to China. Tibet is thought to be a part of China but Tibetans say Tibet is an independent country.

The U.S. has not taken over China. The US would not be able to "take over" China if it wanted to because China is a big country with the largest population of any country on the planet.

They knew that no one was going to stop them in invading Tibet.
