Scout, Jem and Dill are constant companions throughout the summer. It is during this time that Dill asks Scout to marry him. Oddly, once he's proposed, he proceeds to completely ignore her. Although she tries to get his attention, even resorting to administering a beat down on him, he continues to act as though she just isn't there.
The book ends with Scout thinking about how Jem might have killed Bob Ewell and what her father had said about walking in other people's shoes, so we will never really know what happened to both Dill and Scout. Although the point of the story line was to not judge a person entirely before you know them.
