Why did the journey get off to a slow start for Lewis and Clark?

The journey got off to a slow start because the Corps of Discovery were moving their boats against the current. They left May of 1804 and reached the Mandan Indian villages in North Dakota in late October. They built a small fort and spent the winter with the friendly Mandan. In the spring of 1805 they finally set out again.

What happened the day that Lewis and Clark began their expedition?

Contrary to popular belief, the expedition DID NOT begin in St. Louis, Missouri. The first entry in the Lewis and Clark Expedition Journals state that the journey began in Pittsburgh, PA on August 30, 1803. Lewis, who had been assigned by Jefferson sailed down the Ohio River with supplies towards St. Louis. William Clark would offer to join Lewis on the expedition weeks later on October 13, 1803 at Camp Dubois (in present-day Indiana). Provided below is a link to the first journal entry of the Lewis and Clark expedition where you can read about how Lewis bought an air gun that accidentally went off and made a poor woman faint. Also, you can read about how difficult it was to travel along the Ohio River.

Who would win in a fight Lewis or Clark?

Despite the lousy rep he always ends up with, Lewis just might be able to pull that won off and win. Go to www.lewisandclark.org (Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation) and go to either the question forum or an email address and ask them.

How do you write a funny play about the Lewis and Clark expedition?

- You could use details of Lewis and Clark crew being chased by a bear, spending a whole day trying to catch a prairie dog, and accidentally shooting at a woman on the first day of the journey. (Click link for details on that). You could also have an omnipresent "voice" representing Jefferson when they receive letters from him. It would actually be more effective if you have this intimidating voice, off stage, read out really fast all the instructions that Jefferson gave to Lewis and Clark (which is really long and in no way could Lewis and Clark manage to do everything on it and focus on surviving) and then Lewis and Clark just stare at each other and then at the instructions again onstage in amazement. Just some ideas for you. A lot of funny things happened on the trip, another instance is where Lewis was followed by a baby buffalo and had trouble getting it to stop following him, you could incorporate that as well.
