The original line-up in 1966 was Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, John Cale, Maureen Tucker, and Nico. Nico left after the first album in '67, and John Cale was replaced by Doug Yule in 1968. Then in 1970, Lou Reed, the chief songwriter and vocalist, left the band to Doug Yule and an entirely new line-up. The last years, 1970-73, showed no success or reverence for the once relatively popular underground band.
