Clessie Lyle Cummins was an entrepreneur who made huge improvements on already existing diesel engines. In 1919 he invented the first "Cummins" diesel engine and received 33 United States Patent Awards for his invention. He had drastically improved previous diesel engines to make them faster, more powerful, durable, and reliable.
