In 55 and again in 54 BC Julius Caesar first invaded England. Claudius set up a mock invasion in 43AD and officially annexed Britain into the empire. Between all that time there were Roman troops in Britain and recently archaeologists have uncovered evidence of Roman settlements 50 years before Claudius came over. So the exact date of the Romans' arrival is unclear. We doknow for certain that by 426 AD the Romans were completely withdrawn.

How long did Romans occupy Ireland?

They never occupied Ireland although there is a suggestion they were looking at the possibilty of doing so. There are Roman artefacts found around Dublin and the Town of Chester (then Deva) was one of the biggest forts in the whole empire. The only reason for this would be the conquest of Ireland. The Empire fell into civil war and then collapsed before they made a move on Ireland.
