Well, it started with a regular bicycle.. They obviously wanted something faster so came up with the idea of a bike with a motor. The first steam engine was made in 1867, when a guy named Pierre Michaux's son Ernest Michaux fitted a small steam engine to a bike called 'Velocipedes' which his father founded the first company to construct bicycles with pedals called a velocipede.
