She didn't reject the money. At first she supported the bridge, then she was against the bridge. The bridge was never constructed, but she kept the money.
Sarah Palin supported the Bridge to Nowhere in Washington DC, and did fight for it. She stopped advocating for the bridge after it was brought to her attention through public outcry that the costs had climbed beyond reason for such a project that would benefit so few. Well yeah she kinda did support it at the beginning but she didn't want money from congress. She said thanks but no thanks if we want a bridge we'll build it our selves!!
Palin kept the money she said she did not want and put it in the general transportation fund. So she kept "unneeded" funds from Bush but rejected "unneeded" stimulus funds from Obama. Politics anyone?

Yes. Repeatedly. In several of her rallies that were aired on TV, she spoke about the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska, and how she opposed building it, even though she really hadn't. Also, her interview with Katie Couric was laden with lies.
In her nationally televised speech accepting the job as John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she "championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress" and opposed federal funding for a controversial bridge to a sparsely populated island. "I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere," Palin said Friday in Ohio, using the critics' dismissive name of the project. "'If our state wanted a bridge,' I said, 'we'd build it ourselves.'" While running for governor in 2006, though, Palin backed federal funding for the infamous bridge, which McCain helped make a symbol of pork barrel excess. And as mayor of the small town of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002, Palin also hired a Washington lobbying firm that helped secure $8 million in congressionally directed spending projects, known as earmarks, according to public spending records compiled by the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste and lobbying documents. Wasilla's lobbying firm was headed by Steven Silver — a former chief of staff to Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, a key proponent of the bridge project. from USA Today, August 31, 2008 http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-08-31-palin-bridge_N.htm

" "In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the 'bridge to nowhere' that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars."
