It opened on Broadway on March 10th in 1975. The critics didn't like the play, and it closed on April 6th, 1975 after only 45 performances. Boy, they screwed up now didn't they? Work had already begun on the film before it even got to Broadway with Tim Curry and Meatloaf to begin recording the soundtrack. Look how big the movie is now. It's HUGE even after 34 years.
