The British 20 Pence coin was first issued on the 9th of June, 1982.
The 20p denomination was first minted in 1982. It was introduced to help with change-making, because people were finding themselves awash in 10p coins. The situation was made worse because at that time the 10p coin was the same huge size as the old florin that it replaced after decimalisation.
The 20p coin is also notable because it was the first decimal coin to have its denomination expressed simply in pence rather than "new pence".
The 20 Pence coin is British and was first issued in 1982.
The British Twenty Pence coin was introduced in 1982 to reduce the demand on Five and Ten Pence coins.
Pictures of a specific coin are difficult to come by. Frequently you should be able to find one on eBay, but the picture is withdrawn after the coin is sold.See the link below and look for the - George III Cartwheel Two Pence, 1797.The picture shows a general circulation coin which has the same general appearance as the Proof coin, but Proof coins are much more pleasing to the eye.
The current pound coins are: The penny, the two pence coin, the five pence coin, the ten pence coin, the twenty pence coin, the fifty pence coin, the pound coin, and the two pound coin. There are also crown sized (American silver dollar sized) commemorative coins, early decimal crowns were valued at 25 pence, later ones are valued at five pounds at face value, though often the collector value exceeds the face value, and many shops do not take them. There are also many obsolete British coins, including all the pre-decimal coins, and the decimal half-penny, along with various bullion coins which are legal tender but have metallic values that far exceed the legal tender value.
These coins are no longer in circulation since Irelands changeover to the Euro in 2002. Currently you would be lucky to get more than a few pence more than face value for a circulated coin in excellent condition. In many years to come, they may have some collector value, but only in excellent condition. Keep them for your grandkids.
There is no such thing as a British 20 dollar coin. If you have a 20 dollar coin it must come from some other country (or even British colony)
The three coins that make up 24p, or pence, are a 20 pence coin and two 2 pence coins. This is a problem that is difficult for most americans since coins do not come in those types of denominations.
I think pence comes from England then British Colmubia copied them and made 20 pence coins. I don't know if England has 20 pence coins.
A Shilling was a coin made of silver, or in later years, copper-nickel, and of silvery appearance, approximately 23.5 mm in diameter. A Penny was a copper or bronze coin approximately 30.8 mm in diameter. There were 12 Pence to a Shilling. These coins are now redundant in all of the Commonwealth countries that were using them.
The coin could have come from many of the then, British Empire countries. If the coin has no country name on it, it is most likely British.
