05:30 on 7 June 1942 (5:30 AM, three days after the Battle of Midway) The Yorktown succumbed to torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-168 while salvage operations were under way from the damage she received at Midway.
CV-6, USS Enterprise, the most decorated warship of WWII, was never sunk; in fact it was the ONLY Yorktown class aircraft carrier to survive the war. Her sisters, the USS Yorktown was lost at the Battle of Midway, and the USS Hornet was sunk during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
The USS Kearny (DD-432) was torpedoed off Iceland on 17 October 1941 by the U-568 but was not sunk. Casualties included 11 killed and 22 wounded. It was sold on 6 October 1972 and broken up for scrap.
