Plus size models have always been around in the modeling world but they disappeared for a while in the 1960s when Twiggy's waif look made it virtually impossible for plus size models to be in demand. The plus size movement made a comeback in the late 1980s when notable designers like Liz Claiborne started designing their lines for the more accurately-sized woman.

∙ 10y agoThe first plus size models began modelling around 1970, when model agencies finally decided to pick up with this size of clothing. Early plus size modellers include Mary Duffy, and Pat Swift, who both were involved with the business around 1977 and 1978.
