The original Mountain Dew formula was created in the 1940s by Tennessee bottlers Ally and Barney Hartman. Then Pepsi bought the brand. Actually Mtn. Dew is a slang term that means moonshine. Also Coca-Cola has tried to steal sales from Mtn. Dew, first with the short-lived Surge and, more recently, with the hybrid energy soda Vault. Not sure how well that's going though.
