It depends on where you live as to whether you even allow your guinea-pig outside. Guinea pigs do not have a lot of tolerance for cold weather, so they should be kept inside or under cover in a dry hutch. However, if you live in a more temperate area, you can leave your guinea-pig outside in a secure hutch. If you release it to run in a garden, it will just graze on whatever grass or tasty plants it finds, and if danger approaches, it is likely to run and try to hide. Never leave guinea-pigs loose outside unsupervised, as they could be attacked and killed by cats and dogs. Guinea pigs are surprisingly fast and nimble if they are not very tame, and will try to run away. If you placed some plastic water pipes around the yard, they would probably run towards them as a place to hide. Once they're inside something like this, you can gently pick up the pipe (holding both ends so the guinea-pig doesn't slide out and fall heavily on the ground) and return the guinea-pig to its hutch. Guinea-pigs don't know if weeds have been poisoned, and they will likely eat things like thistles and dandelions. If these plants have been hit with weed-killer, it will cause the guinea-pig to die also.
Rabbits spend a lot of the day sleeping, especially between noon and 4pm or so. Rabbits are crepuscular, which means they're most active around dusk and dawn (and the hours surrounding those events).
When he's not sleeping, rabbits will graze (eat hay, drink water, eat any leftovers from breakfast, use the litter box), and groom and cuddle with his room-mate (if he has one). He may play with his toys and/or explore his environment a little bit, but those are more properly morning and evening activities.
Guinea pigs in the wild are much more tough than the common house hold pet ones the forage for there own foods and breed with each other. They also live in large groups together so there might be some fights with each other about who gets to mate with a particular girl that they are fighting over.

Guinea pigs are not nocturnal neither do they sleep at night always. They are most active at dawn and dusk. When you see a guinea pig laying or sitting still with their eyes open, they may be sleeping. Guinea pigs can sleep with their eyes open. I think they just take a lot of naps and can be awake and playing at almost any time if they are given enough resting time on the side.

Guinea pigs, most likely have their babies during the night. I know that when I had my pregnant guinea pig, I kept her in my room until she had babies. She woke me in the middle of the night with her sounds while giving birth.
