In the New York state you are required to pay child support until the child reaches the age of 21. This may stop if you can prove to the court that the child is emancipated, not living with parents and has a source of income, in the military or married. How one goes about this, I have no idea.
Please go onto: www.Google.com TYPE IN: What are the child support laws in New York. Marcy Both parents are responsible to support the maintenance and educational needs of their children. The factors being who has the most financial resources, the health of the child, tax consequences (EEC) and so forth. Basic assessment for the non-custodial parent is, 1 child 17%, 2 children 25%, 3 children 29%, 4 children 31%, 5 or more children 35% of net income.
The application is that if the father is unable to retain employment due to age, his parents can be required to parry the obligation based on a presumption of earnings estimate of at least 30 hours at minimum wage.
These amounts are variable depending on factors related to a rebuttable presumption, and or related expenses, such as day care cost. The actual amount ordered can be high or lower than these. see links below

It depends. Did you have a support agreement in place before you lost your income? If you did they will continue to withhold the same amount from your unemployment check. If you did not then they will decide at the child support hearing. In most states it is based on percentages. In NY state the maximum for one child is 17% of your gross pay.
