It is difficult for females having irregular menstruation to determine the exact dates of ovulation, if they are going to calculate ovulation manually. However, there are many other means to calculate ovulation. One can record her basal body temperature, or observe the appearance of the cervical mucus. An increase in basal body temperature by 1 degree means one is ovulating. Cervical mucus that appears clear, slippery and has a consistency similar of raw egg white is a clear sign of ovulation. Using an ovulation kit is another way to determine if one is ovulating or not.

Is it normal for a 15 year old girl to miss her period?

Yes, this is completely normal. Irregular periods are normal within your teens as it takes time for your body to get into a regular pattern of ovulation, and thus into a regular pattern of menstruation.

Why irreggular periods happens?

Menstruation is part of the menstrual cycle, it occurs after ovulation if the egg released is not fertilised, thus if ovulation is irregular menstruation will be irregular too. This is common during puberty as it takes time for your body to reach a point where it is mature enough to ovulate on a regular basis and hormonal imbalance is normal. Ill-health such as stress or unhealthy weight can cause irregular cycles too, also some medical conditions. If worried talk to your doctor to look into why you have irregular cycles.

Why periods is irregular?

Periods will be irregular because you don't ovulate regularly. This is normal if you're in your teens as it takes time for your body to reach a point where it is mature enough to ovulate on a regular basis and hormonal imbalances are normal during puberty - equally if you're heading into menopause hormonal imbalances and slowing down of ovulation is normal. Your cycles can also be irregular due to ill health or health problems, it's a good idea for you to discuss menstrual irregularity with your doctor.

Why are irregular menstrual cycles bad?

Irregular cycles are not necessarily bad, for example during menstruation this can be normal because it takes time for your body to get into a regular pattern. In general however irregular cycles mean irregular ovulation, this is a major indicator of health because your body will only delay or prevent ovulation if it thinks you cannot cope with pregnancy, or it will only occur if you have some sort of health problem effecting your cycles.

When can human fertilization take place?

The ovum can be fertilized for about two days after ovulation in the female human, on average ovulation takes place every 28 days, It can be longer or shorter depending on the individual woman. Ovulation takes place half way through a woman's menstrual cycle. in other word if she starts her menstrual bleeding every 28 days, then she ovulates 14 days after the bleeding starts.

If your periods are irregular is there any way to induce them?

If your periods are irregular then you should talk to your doctor about investigating the cause - although if you're in your teens this is normal as it takes time for your body to regulate. You can't force your periods to start when they are not due, your periods will only start once you've gone through a menstrual cycle: i.e. after ovulation. The birth control pill can't make your periods come, nor can the morning after pill - the birth control pill suppresses your cycles (bleeding on the pill is a withdrawal bleed, not menstruation) so has the opposite effect of regulating your cycles, and the morning after pill prevents ovulation.

Is there more chance of pregnancy during periods?

The best chance for pregnancy is in days 14-18 of a 28 day cycle. To determine these days keep a monthly calendar. Mark the first day of your period as day #1 and keep marking each day until the next cycle. At the mid point of a cycle ovulation takes place and this is usually on/around day 14. Sperm will live 5-6 days in the uterus so if sex takes place about day 11 or 12 of the cycle it is very likely that a pregnancy could result when ovulation takes place.

When does the fertilized egg implant into the uterus?

It takes place during the menstrual cycle, and the process is called ovulation. (Another name for the fertilized egg is a 'zygote') Ovulation is not a fertilized egg. Ovulation is the release of an unfertilized egg. The fertilized egg implants about 6-8 days after ovulation
