What normally are called reactants form products. As more products are formed, in some reactions, they start undergoing the reverse reaction to reform the original reactants. The forward reaction has a certain rate(speed that it occurs) which slows asreactants are used up. The reverse reaction initially has zero rate because there are none of those substances to reverse the process but that reverse rate speeds up as more of those substances are formed.

When both rates areEQUAL, the system is at chemical equilibrium.

What is meant by law of equilibrium?

The law of equilibrium refers to the condition where two opposing forces or factors are balanced and cancel each other out. In the context of physics, it describes the state when an object is either stationary or moving at a constant velocity with zero net force acting on it. This law is fundamental in understanding the stability and behavior of systems in various fields of science and engineering.

What is meant by a stress on a reaction at equilibrium?

A stress on a reaction at equilibrium refers to any change that disturbs the balance between reactants and products. This can include changes in temperature, pressure, or concentration. When a stress is applied, the reaction will shift in a direction that helps to relieve the stress and re-establish equilibrium.

What is the importance of equilibrium in the study of chemical reactions?

Equilibrium denotes a condition where the sum of forces is zero or balanced. This condition is related to Boundary conditions or limit values for Energy. This is important because at Equilibrium the forces are balanced and the condition is said to be stable and unchanging.

What is meant by reversible and irreversible action?

Reversible action refers to a process that can be undone or reversed, returning to the original state without any permanent changes. Irreversible action, on the other hand, signifies a process that cannot be undone, resulting in permanent changes or consequences.
